[Exclusive] Project Luminous covers the whole future of Star Wars

Our informant, close to Disney, says the multiplatform project will start with a video game. The article contains spoilers!

Almost nine months ago, at the 2019 Star Wars Celebration of Chicago, it was announced that Claudia Gray, Justina Ireland, Daniel José Older, Cavan Scott and Charles Soule are working on a joint project, which was named Project Luminous. In late April, we tried to collect everything connected to the project and its participants. There were no leaks about Luminous since – apart from Scott’s tweets about several meetings with his fellow writers –, until now.

Our source with an insight into Disney’s work has shared some information with us, concerning the concept of the project,  so if you don’t wish to see SPOILERS, stop reading!

Here’s what we know about Project Luminous

Cavan Scott only shared that the project will happen in 2020, and it’s a new and exciting thing, the largest he has ever participated in. Instead of further comments, he used a Ben Kenobi-phrase from A New Hope: “The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things…”

It all matches with what our informant said about the secret project. Supposedly, Disney is also feeling that its current path with movies has flaws, and has, therefore, started designing a huge project years ago, which would result in

making the future of the Star Wars franchise similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Our informant said that the new, connected multiplatform story will be set  300-400 years BEFORE the Skywalker-saga.  The plot would involve a group of Jedi setting out to explore the then-unknown regions of the Galaxy (Timothy Zahn’s Outbound Flight might come into mind, which also deals with the Jedi exploring what lies outside the edges of the Galaxy). According to our informant, the Jedi would get involved in numerous adventures and conflicts with three different types of enemies, the darkest being ancient evils, Sith gods of some sort.

As far as we know,  these stories would be separate, but also connected, similar to the MCU.  The more one would see, the more it could be enjoyed, with the different plots culminating in the style of the Avengers movies. The main Jedi characters would also have different strengths and powers, similar to superheroes.

Although Project Luminous is said to be launched in 2020, our informant said that its first product will be a video game in 2021, but could provide no information about its content and its developers.

We speculate from here

It is possible, that only the announcement of the project’s frame will happen in 2020. The Star Wars Celebration of Anaheim would be a perfect opportunity for Lucasfilm to share more about the mysterious project.

It must be mentioned that in May 2019, rumours arose about Laeta Kalogridis working on the script of a trilogy set in the days of the Old Republic, since 2018. It is possible that our information about Project Luminous and this rumour match. Although it must be mentioned that the use of the phrase „Old Republic” is quite unclear, sometimes it is used for the setting of the KotOR and TOR games, sometimes for the times before The Phantom Menace. If Kalogridis has indeed been working on the script for a long time, it might be finished in time. It is also possible, that she writes her story instead of David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for the planned December 2022 movie (unless it actually is the same project, and Kalogridis was the reason the duo left in October 2019). The Hollywood Reporter previously wrote that an announcement about the next movie is expected for January – the same month mentioned about some revelations about Project Luminous. We tried to find out which half of January from Cavan Scott, but to no avail…

Always in motion the future is. News is coming, but unfortunately I’m not at liberty to say when… yet. Watch @starwars for more info as it happens. https://t.co/oaRM6HtvCm

If our information about Project Luminous is correct, then Kathleen Kennedy was great at obscuring when giving an interview to Rolling Stone (or she was simply lying). “We’ve got various things we’re looking at and various ways in which we can begin or not. As you can imagine. You know, do you go back? Do you go forward? All those questions are being asked. Do we stay in this galaxy? Do we go to another? The universe is never-ending”, laughed Kennedy, which didn’t seem like the company is certain which direction to take.  Her answer was a confident “no” when asked if they had decided what the next step will be, which also shows an uncertain future.

Whatever the case may be, we are eager to see if the first official announcements about Project Luminous will match the details given by our informant (the same goes to what Kevin Feige’s part will be in the franchise). However, it was our informant  who told us months before the first episode of The Mandalorian, that the main character will find a child,  whom he will take care of for the most part of the season…
